i've decided i need a shed to store some of my junk (2 lawn tractors, log splitter, snow blower, and some push mowers, and probibly misc. other junk) but i've got no idea what i should look for.

should i go for one of those steel building's like they sell at sears or lowes, look into a pre-fab shed, or try to build something? i'm on a budget of under a grand if i can help it.

anyone have any ideas of what i should do, or where i could find some good info?
 
If you're tight on money you'd be better off building it yourself. Those aluminum and steel sheds will have you paying out the ass for em, and the plastic ones don't hold up very well. They fade and crack in the sun and you'll have leaks all over eventually. If I were you, I'd go get some 2x4s and make yourself something that you'll be proud of.
 
We had one of those steel out buildings & after a couple years it started rusting all over. Finally the bottom parts of the walls rusted away and it suddenly got about a foot shorter.

Now we have a pre-built wood building & it's holding up really well.

and thanks for the input from the rest of ya'll. i've also considered building a shed, but i've got close to zero carpentry skills, so it would have to be super simple.
 
Go to home depot, lowes, anywhere basically and buy a book! Theyve got a 200 page book on just small buildings and sheds and such. Well worth the $12 lol

You mean you cant get sticks put in the ground thats level and straight lay your foundation blocks then get 2x4's and nail them to another board lol then run some wires for electricity (if needed) then paint it? Lol kinda sounds hard but really isnt foundation is everything

get a hammer and hit ****. really easy. like they always say, "measure once, cut twice" :D
 
i honestly don't even care if it's got a floor, lol. i've been thinking of mabe building something like a horse run-in shed, only smaller & less fancy. mostly as a spot to keep things dry and covered.

i suppose i could also cunsult with my uncle up in NY state for tips, scince he started building sheds a couple years back for some extra $.
 
my grandmother's got a wood shed that i like the design of it ( it's about as simple as you can get, 4x4's, 2x4's and tin sheet roofing & walls) that i'm gonna look at closer next time i'm up there, i figure i could make something like it only a bit deeper & wider to suit my needs.

what's a lean-to though?

lol, i've already done something like that, when my freebie portable garage fell down i used the peices that wernt destroyed to make a makeshift shed, which also collapsed, lol. which is why i'm wanting to go for something made of lumber, tin and or plywood.
