i've always wondered if this can be done at home

Yes it can--I've been working on mine on-and-off this winter. I'm no bodyman, but I'm patient and meticulous, so that helps. I finally test-fitted mine on Saturday, but it still needs some more clearanceing around the grill. I'll be doing everything but painting the top of the hood myself.

Stopped by the body shop on the way in, this is the progress so far. This is just the start of trimming, there is more to be done but its progress!!
