I just purchased this little truck about a week ago. It was an one owner with documented records of any and all repairs at what mileage and dates. A 1991 XLT 2 wheel drive with 3.0 and 5 speed, less than 110,000 miles.

It's had the clutch and tranny replaced.

Not really all that stiff, but it isn't spongy either. No jumping or slipping is great.

194k (and some change) 1997 xlt 2wd, 4.0. (Second owner) still runs very well.

My first Ranger 96 2.3 L. Bought it with 144,000 mi in 2007. I drive about 15,000 per year and drove it for 8 years. Had to put tires,
fuel pump relay and plugs. I change the oil in my vehicles 4 time a year. She still purred like a kitten when daughter drove it away.
( crashed it 2 weeks later) I still tear up thinking about it. They are great motors. Jury still out on the 4L. so far so good 155,000

All this 4L chat reminds me of the first time I drove a 4L.
When did they come out? '89? Yeah, sometime around then.
I was working as a mechanic and felt the need to "performance test" every car I worked on (hey, my ride was an '80 Rabbit Diesel back then. I had to get my kicks some how!).
Up until then, we had all been well versed in the "power" of the 2.9 (
). I had to do something with a Bronco II so out I went and I floored it heading around to the shop. I didn't know it had a 4L.Once I climbed out of the back seat and regained control of the vehicle, I parked it in a stall and immediately ripped the hood open.
One of the tech's came over with a big grin and asked, "So what do you think of the 4 litre?".
I was still like, " uhm-ah, uhm-ah, uhm-ah...". I must've still had that look of terror on my face because he was just cracking up.
I've only had two cars ever do that to me and that Bronco was one of them. Man that thing can pull hard.
...btw, what did you mean by "...opened up the air box." ?

The horn actually does two things. It quiets down the rush of air entering the air box AND it provides a SMOOTH airflow path for that air. When you remove the horn/snorkel (what a lot of forums call the "air box mod"), you are disrupting the air flow... it no longer has a smooth, curved surface to flow over and funnel the air into the box. Most likely, that is not increasing horsepower, but rather decreasing it. Only your dyno knows for sure!

It is somewhat louder. It does not have that whistle sound the cone filters have. Just a heavier
sound when you get on the pedal. As far as horsepower goes. Well it sounds faster and the gas
mileage is the same. It sounds like you're going faster. Sometimes that's what it's all about FUN.
