So I've got the wiper issue where they turn on when I turn on my headlights. It's not the multifunction switch, I replaced it with a brand new one from the dealership.

So, I'm guessing it has something to do with the SJB. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas. Its cold here so I don't wanna really poke around not having an idea.

ok, so it got pretty warm out, so I took off the passenger side kick panel to see whats up. wiggled the connectors a bit to see if they were loose, didnt really seem like they were. but i unplugged the two big ones, and plugged them back in. turned the truck on, turned on the lights, absolutely no issues at all. so my guess, loose connection somehow. idk. will keep an eye on it and see if the problem comes back after a while.

these two big main ones here are the ones i unplugged

    and the one above it.

so, if anyone else ever encounters this issue, and reads this thread, try unplugging those, and plugging them back in. might just solve the issue. wish i had though of this before buying a new multifucntion switch for $100.
but, on another forum had multiple members tell me thats what it was.
so, never trust forum members when they tell you to buy something lmao. try the things that are free first.

BTW. this is for 04+ trucks i think. i think thats the year they switched to the SJB instead of the GEM. someone correct me if im wrong.

Glad you found that issue, I havent heard of that one yet though. Atleast you found it and got a new switch. Maybe the other can be sold or kept as a good spare.

I like the design of them. I tried integrating one into my 01 and it wouldnt work. It wouldnt hurt throwing out a sale to see what you can get for it though to make up for the loss.

Small update, problem came bad again once today. But didn't happen any other times today. So random.

I would check the connectors that you unplugged for corrosion. Also check the firewall plugs below the master cylinder and the ones at the bottom of the steering column.
Those connectors and the multi function switch are the only places where the headlights and wipers are "connected" Unless it's inside the harness itself.
You could pick up some dielectric grease to put on the connection pins when you have them apart.
Wiggle test would be the next choice. Have someone watch the lights while you wiggle ALL the wires with the wipers on.

    will do.
    tomorrow will be troubleshooting day.

got super annoying today on my drive home. went off out of nowhere 4 times in a row. smooth road, no bumps to jar anything loose or anything.

What is similar with both the headlights and wipers ?

    That's where I would start.

You mentioned the Multifunction switch, check it for connector problems too.

Although older my '95 had problem with the lights and it turned out to be pins in the connector of the multifunction switch, the locks let go.

multifunction is fine. checked it the other day when i tore the other stuff apart.

its gotta be those plugs in the SJB. will mess around with them again tomorrow.
all i know is i gotta fix it. i drive in the dark to work and back. cant have them going off every 5 minutes lol.

Ok on the switch but I was thinking of the connector itself, the pins sometimes come loose.

    What is the "SJB" ?

well i havent had time to really dig around, but i unplugged the lower plug, and plugged it back in and the issue vanished again. so, its something to do with the lower plug im assuming by the results i achieved

    Demon I take no prisoners!

i hope u figure it out. it would be a great how to fix thread to add on here. for others to fix when and if it happens to them.

The next time try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for one minute, then reconnect and see if it changes anything.

Just thinking it might help if you reset the computer it might change something.

Good idea. I'll try that when it starts acting up again.

Thinking more… if you can’t get this corrected and I know you need the washer but unplug it.
At least you will be able to see if this happens again.

Also, contact rwenzing on Ranger-Forums.com, Bob, ask him about this, not sure if he is on this site or not.
He is an X-Ford engineer and has come through on R-F.com for a lot of guys, he’s good.
He told me what pins to change on a mid-90s Gauge Cluster so it will work in my ’03, I wanted to get rid of the Tach in the Cluster and mount a separate one on the dash above the Cluster.
