So, I got to thinkin...

  1. Gas prices down my way just dropped like a rock from $3.79 last weekend, to $3.59 today. So that made me wonder, what's the price of a gallon of gas, before all the costs? I did some research, found that roughly 51.24% of every 42 gallon barrel of oil is made into gasoline, and then figured out roughly what the total amount of gasoline is produced from an entire barrel. So from what I got out of it, approximately 55 gallons of gasoline are produced from a single barrel. Then researched the price of a barrel of oil and came to be about $98. So what I got was a gallon of gasoline should be approximately $1.78/gallon, and that's before the cost to drill, worker's pay, cost to transport, and cost to refine the crude into gasoline. (Figures are relative, may not be exact) So the way I view it, gas prices aren't high, they're not high enough....although I'm not complaining. There's a ton of work that goes into making gasoline, and $3.59 a gallon seems like a good price to pay now. Yeah, sure. It's gone up 200%+ in ten years, but so has everything else as far as cost and pay checks. So to be honest, I'm not complaining about gas prices anymore. Now that I know what goes into it and what the price per gallon is after production, I'm happy with what I pay.

Funny, I was thinking along these same lines the other day. You did forget to add State and Federal Tax. And I"m not happy paying $4.16 a gallon while most of the country is paying less than $4 a gallon. I heard the other day that the price dropped by 3 cents for the rest of the country and we went up by 3 cents. Please explain that to me.

Just think of how many gallons are being sold everyday tho. They could lower it to where they only profit $0.10 and they would be okay. Insane amnts of profit either way.

And here in Wisconsin 33.0 cents of that gas price is taxes. Wisconsin is a tax hell. If I can ever retire I'm moving the heck out of this state. :furious:

I was talking about fuel tax and I was wrong before. I must have been looking at an out of date chart. The tax per/gal of gas in Wisconsin is 51.3 cents including a federal tax of 18.2 cents.

Yeah, that too. A lot of it is taxes and ridiculous ones at that. Not sure what it is here... Demon, artificial inflation is a pain and yes they need to stop doing it. But keep in mind that there are needs and reasons to why the price goes up.

Gas is ridiculous IMO either way you look at it. Best way to improve the economy? Lower gas prices. Lower gas means the store can sip it for cheaper, which means the shipper can charge a little more, which means the consumer can buy stuff cheaper... Theres no bad way to look at it. Heck, even the gas companies would come out on top becasue people would drive more!
