1992 spare key

I searched the forum and could not find an answer. Are the keys to a 92 ranger chipped?

I went to get a spare key and my key shop quoted me $160.00. I know chipped keys are expensive but I didn't think a 92 was using chips yet. Should I bite the bullet and spend the $160 or is someone ripping me off?

I think they are trying to rip you off. Iirc they didn't start chipping ranger keys until 99 or 00
