XLT door handles

hello everyone I have a 98 3.0 with doors that are very hard to pull open. I’m sure it is due to the second door which the main doors latch to, Anyone know how to adjust these? I knew the door handle wouldn’t take too much to break, and I don’t want to break another one. Thanks for any input.

Hello Leslie and welcome to the forum! Well, I have no personal experience with the 4-door model Ranger, but I would start with good lubrication of the door latch mechanism of ALL 4 doors. This will require removing the door panel and spraying/smearing a suitable lubricant on all moving parts and linkages. Once that is done, and before reinstalling the door panels, I would close all the doors several times and take note if they are working smoother. Also, observe if the door body lines align correctly. If not, most likely there is excessive wear in the door hinge (probably the FRONT doors as they get opened most often). Give that some thought and good luck! :)

The issue is that you have to really pull on the door handle to open it up. Both sides are like that. I believe it is due to the back doors not having their own door jamb to rely on so they sorta compress into the main doors when they are opened. I was hoping someone had a quick fix/adjustment I’m falling behind in my job and personal life due to this xlt’s consistant tantrums lately and now i’ve got two yes 2 broken door handles with replacements a week away. But I sure appreciate the quick response and your input and I did lube it up and made sure everything is lined up tite
