ive got a 98 ranger 4 by4 xlt with the 4.0 and the reverse band snapped,im wondering if i have to use the same year of transmission or what year of trans will work,i think it has a 5r55e,so i picked up a 99 explorer to take out the trans and swap into the ranger but the explorer has a sohc 4.0 and was told it wont bolt up,i also have a 4r75w transmission for a v8 and was wondering if the explorer tcase would bolt to it,i havent worked on fords much so any info would help me get it fixed

I just had my 98 4x4 rebuilt 5r55e .rear servo broke. The torque converter was putting fine metal throughout so I needed all new bands, clutches, seals, servos, and more. Cost 3000 in Connecticut. Now I seem to have lost my 4 wheel drive

Not sure about the 5r55e not bolting up to the sohc. I do know that the 4r70w will for sure not fit.

The Sohc have different bell housing than the Ohv. Your best bet is to just rebuild your original tranny.
