So I was thinking about getting a Flowmaster 40. The one I found has a single 3" input and dual 2.5" output.

What size is my stock piping on my 98 3.0?

if i remember correctly the stock piping is either 2.25" before and after muffler, or 2" before, and 2.25" after.

So then what size in/out should I go with?

if possible id say 2.5 in/out
then just get some extensions that are the right size.
    like these things.

that would work yup. just measure the stock in pipe to see what size reducer you will need.

Get you a single 40 series and do a turn down behind the cab. Would sound sick.

  9. Get the original 40. Not the delta flow. Sounds so much better.

FM40 Dumped sounds like ass and is ear rattling loud in your ear. I cant wait to get my tail pipes on.

Now I dont have any cats on, but still, I would not dump it.

I won't dump it, but I'll probably have it be a side exit before the wheels like my glasspak is..

I didn't bother to read all the replies....

Most Flowmasters come in all kinds of sizes for si/do mufflers. Don't just rock the stock tubing....have a full cat-back made FOR you!! For your engine, I'd suggest going with 2.25" inbound tubing from the cat back to the muffler, and dual 2" tailpipes. If you're stuck with getting say a 3" in/dual 2.5" out, the muffler shop can expand the pipes and make it work.

Have them remove the factory choke spot....and put in a new flange. Mine is 2.5 to 2.5...

My system ran me $200 and I reused my existing muffler...
