Still shaking like a salt shaker

Hi everyone!!
I'm new here and I need a little help. My 99 Ranger XLT 3.0L V6 started shaking last Saturday. It first would only do it if I restarted him after being off less than a few hours. It progressively got worse, started shaking a little more as I accelerated from stop.

I took it to the mechanic where I was told I needed my spark plugs and wires changed along with a fuel system tune-up (not sure what that consists of). Got my spark plugs and wires changed yesterday by a friend (He crossed 5 and 6 which I had to fix this morning) went and got an oil change and fuel filter replaced and he's still shaking.

What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

Could be a motor mount that's broken/on it's way out. My truck has a slight vibration to it constantly, but it's probably because all my mounts are just about shot.

Think i'm going to use some SeaFoam and see if that helps. Don't think the previous owner was very good to my truck. It had apparently never had a tuneup, still had original spark plugs and i got it with over 120k miles on it.

Oh and I also had to get a new IAC valve installed about a month ago.
 
Don't feel bad. lol Same here man. When I got my truck, the engine had never been cared for aside from oil changes. 140k on the original sparks
 
Have the coil pack checked to make sure it is firing correctly. Also check your IAC, Idle Air control valve, see if its gummed up
 
Also check the harmonic balancer and the have the balance on the wheels checked. And is it just the motor causing the shaking or something else?
 
I got a new IAC installed about a month ago. It was so dirty/gummed up that he wouldn't start.

I believe that it is just the motor. Shakes when I put it in gear and take off from a stop signor red light but not when I get up to like 30-45 mph (speed limit here)
 
Could very well be a u joint. The motor wouldn't really cause the truck to shake unless the motor mounts were completely broken and the tranny was disconnected.

Wouldn't some of those larger things be noticed by a licensed auto mechanic? I took it in for the shaking and they only said it needed a tune up.

Thats like I took my truck to find out where my brake l;ine leak was at and they told me I needed new sway bar links lol check vacuum lines to they are tricky.
 
Check your vacuum lines. That sounds like it could be your problem. You MAY have moved something when you changed your IAC
 
^^ good advice, best to start as simple as possible.

i'd also second looking into your coil pack, mine had a horrible missfire, turned out i had a bad plug for so long it fried my coil pack. the truck should throw a missfire code after driving it like that for a while though, but it may take a while for that to happen.

if you've got a check engine or service engine light, take the truck to advanced auto or autozone and have them read the codes for free, and write 'em down so you can figure out what they mean later.
 
There are 2 different things you have to consider with the shaking. First does it just do it when you are moving? or does it happen at idle or stop lights and stuff? If it is at idle then you probably have a miss fire, but if you are moving it could be a u-joint. if its 4x4 then it may be a front u-joint as well. they are things that are common but sometimes easily overlooked if the tech is thinking miss fire... you may have also had more than one problem. the coil packs were pretty common to go bad on those too. also if your friend that did the tune up didn't get the wires routed correctly they can touch the EGR tube and wear through quickly. if it is a miss fire still check out the wires on the drivers side. hope this helps!

Sorry about the lapse in time. I took it to the mechanic and it was apparently my fuel injector # 3 had gone bad. Gt it replaced along with the head gasket and now he is running like a dream.

I am also getting great gas mileage. I used to get 200 miles per tank. And now i'm not even at 3/4 of a tank yet and I've already gotten 50 miles. Fingers crossed that i can keep this up.
