i just bought a 2001 ranger stepside 4x4 4.0L extended cab. nice little truck but having a hard time finding a cover for the bed. any place i can shop on line?

i was going to do my u-joints last night...didnt happen. friggen bolts are on there. all i had was a short 12 point 12mm wrench and wd-40. after kicking them with my foot, im thinking i need to move to the next level. ok to heat the flange or will i cook the seals on trany and rearend? impact? is there a trick to this?
oh does anyone know how to turn off the seat belt buzzer? where the buzzer is located? i'll just rip the friggen thing out.

thanks,
huned

Look on Craigslist for a cover. As for the u-joints, try using a breaker bar or a pipe on the wrench and spray some penetrating fluid on em and let them soak over night.

Use PB Blaster n a rubber mallet to tap on the wrench to loosen them. Works every time for me.

If you're anywhere near Northeast PA I have a hard ARE cover that needs a little work if you're interested in buying it. Welcome to the forum, btw.

you can turn off the seatbelt reminder chime, you could probibly google it. i'd tell you here but i forgot how, it's been so long scince i did mine.

and if you're looking for a tonneau cover, i'd reccomend the extang trifecta tonneau. it's really nice quality and easy to use and remove by you're self.

Where are you located? I have a stepside cap I am selling.

Also did you nuke your seatbelt latch with WD40?

What do you mean by "cover"?? Do you mean a tonneau cover? Sometimes called a "short cap". Like seen here?

Or do you mean a canopy? Topper? Like this?

If you're looking for a tonneau, you'll find a good selection over at www.stylintrucks.com or www.lmctruck.com. Stepside is harder to find.

If you're looking for a canopy, best to contact your local Leer or ARE dealer.

Looking for used? Hit up your local Craigslist. I picked up my $1400 canopy for $200 and also my old soft tonneau for $50. Great deals can be had on the CL.

I always double wrench it. Take two open-box end wrenches(one the right size, one one size larger or of similar size). One on the fastener, the second on the first. Hard to explain, best shown in a pic.

Usually heat won't be needed on even one that's never had it's shaft off in 20 years. But it would help to melt the factory locktite on the bolts.

If you have your owner's manual, flip through it and there's instructions to turn off the "Melt Minder System" or whatever fancy name they gave it. If you don't have an owners manual, google for one or update this thread. I'll scan the page from mine for ya.

One step further would be to confuse the computer to thinking the passenger side door is open when the driver's side door is open. What this will do is remove the dinger that constantly goes off when you're listening to the radio working on your truck with the door open. That drove me nuts so I got to work. lol.
