quick speaker upgrade question

i'm in the middle of upgrading my rear speakers, and i think i may have wired the one i finished backwards. sound comes out of it but much quieter and flatter than i would expect.

can anyone tell me for sure which wire is positive and which is negitive? truck is a 2000 XLT regular cab, 6x8 rear speakers.

Just swap the wire and see if that fixes it. Otherwise it's the speaker or bad wires. How are you wiring in the new speakers? Did you use the original factory plugs or did you just splice the wire? Did you have issues before the swap ?

switch em around. if you got the wires backwards thats exactly how it will sound.

I'll see if I can find the colors for + and -

I used to have em

i spliced 'em into the factory harness using heat shrink butt connectors.

awsome, thanks man! that's EXACTLY the info i needed! gonna go out and take a peek and see if i got things backwards in a bit, like you said i've been told that's how they'll sound if the wires are backwards but i've honestly never gotten speakers wired backwards before.

i finally got to check out that speaker, yep had it wired backwards. swapped the wires around and checked it, still sounds dead compaired to the other stock one. is it possible i fried the new speaker having it wired backwards?

Nah wouldn't have fried it. I didn't feel my new ones were much better till I had both switched out, and played with the radios equalizer. Then they came alive.

I did have one wired backwards as well though, and it didn't blow it.

Or maybe the speakers you got aren't much better than stock. High speakers did you go with?

that's good news, i guess i'll swap the other one in and see what happens. i'm sure the fact they are aimed into the back of my seats dosin't help, lol.

as for the speakers, they are cheap (pyle) 6x8 3-ways, that i was given for christmas. they had some decent reviews at least and feel & look like good quality, and i've had good luck with cheap speakers before. basically i wanted something to help balance out the nice pioneers i put in the doors.

just an update, i finally installed the other rear speaker today, they sound pretty dang good! thanks again for the help :)
