Parking brake issue... I think

Ok so I spent the past week in Chicago helping my brother celebrate is wedding. I left the ranger at home because I had to drive other people around in Chi town so I took our CR-V. I get back last night, go to start up the ol' girl just to make sure everything is running and I needed to let her run. I go to put it in gear (manual), and she doesn't budge. I make sure that my parking brake is no longer engaged (which it wasn't). After going back and forth and really using some gas it finally broke loose. Took 4 or 5 times.


Any ideas suggestions as to what may be going on? My front brakes just got replaced (new rotors, calipers, pads), but I haven't done anything to the back yet.
 
Sometimes they just freeze up. I have seen people just give it a quick whack with the hammer to free it up. I know its common in bigger trucks after they sit for a period of time.
 
Ok, so I shouldn't be worried about my drums at all? I talked with a few people at work today and they said that can happen sometimes because the drums get grooves in them and that causes them to "be stuck". I just wanted to see what others on here had to say about it. Thanks Clinton for the input.
 
Yeah sometimes the freeze up just from sitting. As long as they break free you're good...It becomes a problem when they dont break free lol
 
PB blaster is your best friend....take the drum off and pb blast the hell out of those cables as well as any part of the cable where it can seize up (I.E. the end of the main cable and at the drum)
 
Seized temporarily. If you can move it at all, try reversing and driving her forward a foot or two, like rocking it out of a snowbank almost. It happened every week to my truck, until I took the damn thing out lol
 
Mine does it from time to time especially when its real cold. Nothing uncommon. Usually though I just put it in reverse and it makes a pop noise and off we go.
