I just bought a new Ranger and I am new to the forum. It is a 2.3 2WD with standard Trans. I find that it will not Idle down between shifts gets down to 2200 maybe 2000 the truck normally idles at 950. I took it back to the dealer and he says that it is normal. If this is so it is a pain in the you no what. My 2003 TDI doesn't do that. Looking for feedback.
Thanks

Your TDI is a VW not a ford, I have this issue with mine and have altered the way I drive to accomodate this issue. It is unconventional, but try letting off the throttle about a second before you depress the clutch and see if that helps you out. It's not a perfect situation, but seems to help me out.

High idle

Ya my TDI is a Volkswagen and it's not a Ford but Ford should be able to make their standard transmition shift like it should. I Have been told by two non dealership machanices that the truck shouldn't behave like it does and to take it back, or take it to another dealership. I am in the proses of taking it to another dealer. I will keep everyone inform

My Ranger is the same.. It took me a little bit to get used to it, now I am over it and have no issues with it.

Also, I think it's not doing it as much now that it's "broken in" with 2k miles on it.

It's not something Ford is going to fix. And, yes, the clutch shouldn't have to absorb 1000 to 1500 rpm on every shift. Also you've probably noticed that you have no engine braking when going down a steep grade. The worst part is that it won't cut the idle quick enough when you use the clutch to disengage the cruise control. I've gone way past redline several times. Now I tap the brake or use the off button to disengage the Cruse COntrol. The culprit is the way the ECU is programmed to control the Idle Air Control (IAC). the shade tree fix is to put a restrictor plate on the IAC. The 5.0 Mustang guys have been doing this for some time. The IAC is easy to get to and here's what the restrictors look like. My guess is that it isn't smog legal and may cause your ODB to throw error codes. Google IAC Restrictor plate and you'll find all kinds of info.upload_2014-3-2_12-6-48.jpeg
