when i drive my ranger, 06 2.3, 2wd , 4.10 gears, bout 64k miles, recent plugs, wires, trans flush, but still, just doesnt seem to have alot of take off power, but yet, at we we have 2 other rangers, that dont get taken care and beat on a regular basis, (not by me). and they seem to have more take off power than mine? are the fleet rangers geared different? there also 2.3 2wd autos, i work for pepboys as a mechanic, and we have them as part delievery trucks just like advance autozone, etc. sorry for the long post i just wondered bout it.
 
on the tag when you open the door where the other info is, youll see a sticker and look for the axle code then check the code
 
Tire size differences? I'm kind of at a loss of why the power difference other than possible tire size differences.


4.10 is pretty typical of any 98+ 4cyl auto truck. And if the others have 3.73 and all trucks have the same size rubber, on paper yours would have the pick-up-and-go advantage off the line. The higher the axle ratio, the more peppier off the line.

thanks man, i appreciate it. i went up a tire size on mine, it had 225 70 15 and i went up to 235 75 15s, the two trucks one, 2010, has stock 225- 70 15 and the 08 has 235 75 15, and the axle code for them are 87? if that sounds right.
 
thats what mine is. weird. it just seems like these trucks have alot more power than mine, going up hill my seems to pick slow these go faster

87 = 7.5" 4.10 open


235/75-15 is about as big as you can go on a coil-spring 2wd. About a 1.5" jump. That probably solves your question. But does your work's '08 have 235/75-15's? Is the '08 work truck a 4x4? That's factory size for a 4x4 that year w/15's.
 
we've got a bone stock '07 2.3 / auto regular cab at work, that little truck flies! just like youre's, 4.10 open diff. i've never driven a ranger that felt as gutsy as that truck!

i think it could be the taller tires you've got, if it was me mabe you could talk you're boss into letting you swap wheels & tires with one of the company rangers for a couple of days to help you figure out if it's the taller tires that's causing the problem.
 
both the 10 and 08 are the same as mine. 2.3 2wd reg. cab auto. the 08 has 235-75-15s just like mine. the 10 has the factory 225s on it.
 
i just searched around and im going to be doing the throttle cable mod probably tomorrow or so. but i forgot to mention this, maybe it has something to do with it ot nor. but my gas pedal feels like its sticking a little. when it colds i have to press down pretty hard then it pops free. im not sure what is causing that.
