idles bad until engine warms up

I have a 1987 ford ranger 2.3 gas 5 speed manual and the idle fluctuates when I first turn it on until engine is warm even to the point that it will die sometimes, the idle goes high low steadily until it dies or warms up then it runs just fine. Any ideas I replaced the IAC and changed some vacuum lines off the map sensor that looked cracked and warn also replaced the pcv valve.

I'm positive it has something to do with vacuum. Have you used brake clean, or anything to check for leaks? I had the same problem with my 2.9, and it turned out to be a vacuum clog. Clogs can give the same symptoms as a leak. I had to take my whole intake system apart, and do a super clean. Fixed it right up:thumbsup:

Oh, and by the way, the check engine light doesn't have to be on, for it to throw a code. It could have a code stored in it. Sometimes the CEL flashed briefly, and you don't even see it. Also, it could have a burned out bulb. When you first turn your key forward, does the CEL flash? That's one way to tell.

I didn't have a CEL on, but I had three friggen codes stored! Might want to check anyway. I bought a OBD1 code reader off ebay, for like $15 (new) Totally worth it!
