**IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH REMOVING YOUR AIRBAG YOURSELF, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS! RANGER FORUM IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INCIDENTS WITH THIS PROCEDURE, THIS IS AN "AT YOUR OWN RISK" HOW TO.**

In this write up, you will learn how to change out your cruise toggles. This work was performed on a 2001 XLT

    Tools needed:
    Small flathead screw driver
    Phillips head screw driver
    8mm socket & Ratchet w/ extension

    Step 1.

Disconnect your negative battery terminal!! THIS IS A MUST!

    Step 2.

Using your flat head screw driver , pop off the two circular caps located on the sides of the steering wheel.

    Step 3.

Locate and remove the two 8mm bolts that hold your airbag to the wheel itself.

    Step 4.

Gently pull the airbag straight out and locate the wire harness.
    Disconnect the harness.

    Step 5.

Using your phillips head screw driver, remove the screws that hold the cruise toggles to the wheel. There are 2 for each toggle, 1 upper and 1 lower.

    Step 6.

    Unplugging the cruise toggles:
This is a tricky part if you arent careful you can break the plugs or the wiring itself. In the past I have had a hard time unplugging these due to the amount of pins, their length and how they plug into the toggle themselves. I have found it very easy to unplug them from the harness by seperating the cruise toggles first. When you seperate them, the toggles pretty much unplug themselves.

    Step 7.

Replace the old toggles with your new ones. You do not have to seperate them to plug them back in. Just make sure you line up the plugs, push it in until it clicks.

Once the cruise toggles have been plugged back in, install everything in reverse order.

Congratulations! You have successfully replaced your cruise toggles!
