    How-to: Fuel filler neck hose replacement

    I had a bad leak while pumping fuel on my truck. After some looking around, I found out it was because the hose end by the tank was cracked.

    T55 Torx bit
    7mm socket
    3/8'' to 1/4'' adapter
    1/2'' to 3/8'' adapter
    Breaker bar
    5'' ratchet extension

    First, you need to remove the tailgate.

    After that, disconnect the taillights harness located by the spare tire hole on the bed.

    Now, here comes the fun part.

    First, we removed the bed bolts.

    Then, we disconnected the filler neck from the bed. Remember to keep all bolts some place safe, as well as the gas cap. Most of the filler neck was made of steel, as well as the vent tube, which is attached to the filler neck.

    After that, bed was removed. It is not that heavy. 2 people can lift it and remove it very simple. The 2 bolts by the cab are larger than the other 4 bolts.

    The cause of the fuel leak. Hose was pretty bad all around.

    After some wiggling, old hose was gone and the new was in. We needed to remove 2 worm clamps. We did not replace them since they still looked alright. New hose is 1.5'' in diameter.

    Here's a pic of the steel filler neck with vent tube. The smaller hose by the filler neck (which looks new/black) is the differential breather hose, which was broken in 5 diferent places. I replaced that as well.

    Once you're done replacing the new hose/filler neck, put the bed back, and place all bolts on the correct places. Just make sure everything is tightened properly.

    Remember that you removed/disconnected:
    3 bolts for the filler neck to attach to the side of the bed, and the gas cap.
    6 bed bolts
    Tailights harness

    And that is it. After that, I went to the gas station and fill her up. No leaks at all.

    Awesome how-to! Thank you! I think this might be the issue on my 04' just like your truck. Just went to my local Ford dealer and they gave me part # 4L5Z*9034*CA $282.14 USD+tax. Part is for a US 2004 SuperCab, think it might work or can trim it down maybe. Did you end up having a hose made for yours or did you use Ford factory parts? I'm going to take my bed off this weekend to look at mine. Thanks for any help!

    Great news that you fixed the issue. The fuel leak must have been real bad. Hose looked in really bad shape.
