Help!? Ranger sputters when accelerating

My 2001 Ford Ranger is having trouble accelerating when I press the gas pedal aggressively to pass on the freeway. I've taken it to a few mechanics and I've had a diagnostic run and they keep getting a code of P1309. I've read a few post that say that I need to change the spark plugs (that's what a few mechanics have suggested as well). Has anyone else had this problem?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback or guidance on this subject!

I don't need a trouble code to tell me I have a miss.
If mechanics are telling me to change my plugs..about 45 bucks...I'd change my plugs...and even go crazy and do wires as well 80 bucks..unless it has coil packs...which would give a different code.

I saw 9+ people looked at this post...no one replied because it is a no brainer. Change your plugs.

Spark plugs

I recently purchased a 1997 Ranger with the 3.0 litre V6. It had 97,000 miles on it. It wasn't missing horribly but it sure felt gutless.

The Haynes manual I bought stated that even though the spark plug interval is supposed to be 100,000 miles, plugs usually need changing around 60,000. Sure enough, when I changed the plugs (they were the originals) they were totally worn down. The gap was way past the .045 maximum.

Feels like a new truck now. I'll be checking the gap on the plugs regularly and replacing them early.
