Just picked up this 94 4x4 - five speed. the gears in the tranny seem to be a bit high for a 4x4 - dang thing hauls but on steep terrain and such, i am not sure.

can i find a tranny with lower gear ratios?

Thanks
Alex

Tell us about the truck ^^^ and then someone can tell you what is needed to be done ?

Larger tires mean higher final drive ratio and less power.

First determine the axle ratio..

Raise one side of rear wheel. Mark drive line near the rear yoke with a 4-5 inch horizontal line. Release park brake and place shifter in neutral. Make mark on wheel pointing at the earth. Slowly turn wheel a single revolution while counting the drive line turns. A ratio of 4:10 equals The drive line turning 4 complete turns and just a bit more. This method is 100% accurate on any rear axle. Frank
