I have a 1994 4.0L.....306,000 miles. Hesitate's badly when accelerating....spits and sputters. If you rev it up to say 3000 rpms, when it idles back down it immediately cuts off. I have changed the fuel pump, TP and MAF sensors......no change! Help!

Thanks for responding! I really appreciate it!!! Well, yesterday I started it and just let sit there and run. It idled fine until it warned up and then the rpm's dropped and it started running real rough, it was obviously overloading with gas.....the fumes and smoke were awful. No check engine light at all. It seems if I had a vacuum leak it would do this right when its started. I'm really at a loss here! Thanks again for any thoughts you've got. I may have to take it to a mechanic.

Yeah, that's something else...at least now we know.
Yeah, I would take it to a shop (preferably your local Ford dealer, but I understand if you don't trust your local dealership), have them run it for codes.

Have you checed the catholetic converter may be plugged . If pluggd will give you the same reactions

Cat will do that, check the fuel pressure regulator by unhooking the vacuum line to it. The diaphram in it may have burst causing it to run rich after warmup, cold engines require richer mixtures which is why it does fine when cold. Also check the EGR if equipped, make sure it isn't sticking.

It is that rectangular shaped ignition module..At least that's what it was for me...

I believe Tonyroy1 is on to something! My daughter's Taurus would spit n sputter from start, put it in gear and you better give it gas, engine hot or cold didn't matter! Usually it's the #4 plug that won't be getting spark, pull the #4 wire while holding a screwdriver close to the tower on the ign module, if that plug is firing the spark will try hitting the screwdriver before it hits you. Make certain to get the exact module for your engine, diff modules do have diff firing orders, and remember if ya go for a $20 unit that's all it'll give ya, $20 worth then you're walking! (learnt that the hard way) A steady misfire will act n sound exactly like a vacuum leak! Also check the connections of all the injectors, and check fuel pressure.
