Discuss: Roof Racks

I'd like to be able to use the rear one to help keep long ladders off the roof of the truck.. have to see how it will work.
You could always extend the rail past the edge of the roof a little and weld or bolt some kind of metal to it so the ladder doesn't touch it

I built this one for mine wasn't to difficult, took about 2 days. Had mounts for 4 lights in the front and 2 in the back plus jack and shovel mounts on the sides. Mounting was done inside the door jambs.

Is there any after market companies that make a rack for the ranger? I see a few of you guys with the Yakima racks, but I go to their website and nothing is avail. Especially something that does not require holes.

I personally hate the yakima crossbars. You need the Yakima q-towers with q-25 clips as well as the crossbars. You're at around $185-200 right there. And when you're all said and done, They stick up WAY too far.

have you ever thought of putting an explorer rack on your truck and then getting the yakima mounts for that so its closer to the roof? i'm just wondering cuz i have the same rack you have on yours but i don't have mine mounted right now cuz of how it sits

True, I'll have to find a more suitable sealant than my normal silicone... any ideas on something that will seal up really well, have some adhesive stickieness & remain flexible?

Yeah how about life seal it is a marine sealant remains pliable but I have used it on my boat in many apps hull penetrations, fasteners that go through gunwales etc. Great stuff spendy for a small squeeze tube but worth it. Hope this helps L8R Joe
