Directional Switch

How would you change the Directional Switch In a 2001 Ranger?

It's been having problems lately, the directionals don't stop automatically.

Better safe then sorry. :D

You just have to unscrew the shroud on the steering column, the switch is held on by 2 smaller torx screws. Unplug the switch, unscrew it and swap it out in reverse order and you're set

Yeah I live kinda far from autozone so I figured I would do it in the parking lot so I had blinkers for the ride home

Yeah, it's pretty scary easy how to remove the column & swap the switch, and even the ignition lock.
And how fast you can remove the instrument cluster.. I can do it in 8 minutes if I have to go hunt down the stereo removing tool.

nice to hear that you only did that in 8 minutes so that just lifted up my confidence that i wont be messing up with this easy fix! anyway it is just cheap just in case you mess with the auto parts

It really is pretty easy. Even I managed it in under 15 minutes and that's saying something.. Just be careful when youre unhooking the wires that you dont snap off the connectors. Other than that should be nice and simple.

I did the change on a ’95, simple and found out the new switch didn’t fix the problem.
Taking out the new switch to return it, I found one of the pins in the connector was damaged, WTF, how did that happen.
Ty-Wraps and silicon and the old switch was working perfectly.

Check the connector to make sure it isn’t broken, or a pin hasn’t pulled out.

I was told that the tilt wheel sometimes can pull on things or break things.
