3.0L locked up

1998 Ranger 3.0 L 4WD
engine locked up removed plugs and serpentine belt and could not turn at crank

What do I check next ??????

Check the oild and fluids to make sure it isnt seized. What was it doing prior to the lock up?

oil and coolant levels good not mixed either
going down highway heard a sound like a belt screech and it died

The 3.0 has a camshaft syncronizer they were notorious for going out in the late 90s they usually go out between 80,000 and 130,000 miles. When it fails there is usually a "belt squeak" which is followed by a shut off. If this shut off occurs and the truck won't start afterwards it could mean you have burnt valve due to the cam sync and sensor failing.

So how do I proceed.....

Woudl the engine turn if this cam piece went out.

Now I have the intake and heads off and the engine still will not turn

I do not have the timing cover off the water pump is still on the block

No the engine should turn over as far as i know but you can never tell
