1994 Mazda B300 (6 cyl) throttle races

I have a 1994 Mazda (same as a Ranger)
The throttle seems to stick or even accelerate between gears or even when coming to a stop the acceleation is very high...to the point where you need to drop it in gear and use the transmission to bring it down..
Occasionaly in town I need to simply shut it off and restart it and the throttle/RPMs are OK.....this makes it difficult to drive and impossible to let my wife drive....any thoughts?

I appreciate the response...sorry for sounding like an idiot..but where is it IAC (thats apparently the acronym for this) I cleaned the throttle area with throttle body cleaner.

IAC is located on the throttle body itself.

held on with 2 screws and has a simple electrical connector.
the issues you have sounds more like the plunger is stuck outwards, causing the higher idle. Try cleaning it first, it that doesn't help... look into replacing it.
