I started to read every post but decided not to so if this has been said before sorry !
I don't go bu miles to replace the shocks, I feel the ride of the truck if after a bump you get a few extra bounces then the SHOCKS need replacing.
Another point, don't go by stock or lift kit lengths, always find the max length and collapsed lengths needed and buy accordingly.
Reason: I was having a hell of a time with the ride quality of my truck after the SuperLift (SL) Kit was installed at maximum height with Coil-Overs in the front. Bump Steer was way beyond belief, almost browning the tighty-whiteies ! I tried new rear shocks based on SL Shock and no difference the Coil-Over Shocks in the front were as is, looked ok so I left them alone.
After a few bump steer situations that almost screwed me up, I contacted a local off-Road Fab Shop and talked to them about what/who they used to determine the proper shock for each application. they directed me to Offload Warehoue, (ORW), so I went to talk to them. I told them my bump-steer problem and ride quality problem, told them I had put in a 31-spline rear Axle, and left the truck.
Two days later I got a call, Truck would have been ready but they ran into a problem... wait... here it comes, right, not really, they told me my truck needed two different shock in the rear and the ones that were on there and the recently ordered new shocks were wrong.

! Another day and the truck had new, different length shocks in the rear, rebuilt front shocks and a ride that was as good as when I got the truck with 24k on it.
Talk about surprise, I heard the talk when they were telling me about my problem but until I rode in Little RED, I had no idea of what they actually did.
My conclusion is this, "If you are riding stock height, go to the local parts store and get the brand of shocks that floats your boat, but if you are having a problem with ride, with bump-steer, and/or run a lifted truck... go to a specialist, (at least once), have the needed shock lengths verified and get known, reliable, workable shocks, that have been tested out on the road or trail. whichever you decide is right for you" !
OK, I will get off the soapbox !
Off-Road Warehouse got it done for me and I was completely surprised by the outcome ! Their pricing... yes high like everything else now-a-days but the results is where I am at !
Good Luck to any and all people that do their own work but remember, "sometimes we need help beyond our abilities and finding a specialist isn't a bad thing" !
