    wrench size

It isn't an allen. It is 3/8" square. Just stick a 3/8" ratchet in there and use it. You may have to clean out any rust or debris but, that's all you need. Pete.

    Server error

Is anyone else having issues reaching the forum? Or, is it just me? For most of the past week I kept getting "server error. Try again later" every time I tried to login. Pete.

    your pinion opinion please

The setup of your ring and pinion (pinion depth, ring gear backlash etc) is designed to keep everything quiet in all conditions. With the noise you are describing, it sounds like something on the coast side of the ring and/or pinion has been damaged. if you don't hear any noise accelerating, the...

What all should I replace when installing a manual transmission

I would remove the top cover and inspect the shift forks, if it's a used trans. The 5 speed manual trans in the Ranger (and some F-150's) has the shifter travel limiters built into the synchros, not the cover or gate. That means when you drive down the road, in 4th gear with your hand resting on...

    O/D Kicking Off While Driving

It's been a long time and forgive me if I'm incorrect but, I think that truck has an electronic speedometer. If the speedo works and the cruise control works then I'm thinking the speed sensor is not the issue. You might try going to a local auto parts store and have them scan for codes. It's...

    1991 Ford Ranger, transmission leak

It sounds like the front pump seal is leaking. Often times they will blow this seal out and cause a significant leak. You'll notice "stake" marks around the perimeter of the seal when its installed. If it was replaced without "re-staking" it. it could have blown out. That's where I would start...

I have a 96 ranger and AC not blow out vents

Its probably related to what you just did. It sounds like a vacuum issue. When there is a vacuum problem the HVAC controls default to defrost. I don't know if I would use shrink tubing to repair a vacuum line. If its the hard plastic line that broke, I would use some small rubber line to connect...

    Transmission swap 97 ranger

I believe they will physically bolt up. And, they are very similar to each other internally. However, it would probably operate as a 4 speed because of the PCM programming.

    4.0l engine questions

Bob, The 2000 (I think) and earlier 4.0l engines have the exact same type of timing chain setup as the 3.0l. I have a 94 with 190000 miles on it with no major issues. The engine with the timing chain issues you're referring to are the newer overhead cam 4.0l engines. I know that kind of limits...

    Fuel Pump Issues

Could you hear the fuel pump before it broke down? I have a 94 4.0l and I cant hear my fuel pump, ever. Even with the bed off. Make sure you have spark. Just a thought, in case the fuel pump is actually still good. Pete

    OD on/off light

It should have abs sensors in the front regardless if its 2wd. The trans range sensor is on the side of the trans, at the shift linkage. Used to be called the neutral safety switch on the old dumb transmissions. It was called, by Ford, the MLP sensor for a while until the federal govmt came up...
