    My balking Ranger

My apologies... I re-read your original post. 1994 didn't have the ODBII connector. Have to troubleshoot it the old-school way! :)

    Wheel bearing noise.

Well, it has gone this many miles, so other than a nuisance noise, it may go on forever! Good luck to you!

1997 wipers won't work; replaced motor, relays okay, fuses okay

Always happy to help where I can, Rish! I hope your local wrecking yard has a donor for you. It is quite easy to change out, so you won't have a lot of work ahead of you. :)

    Wheel bearing noise.

I was a professional auto mechanic back in the 1970s and early 1980s (moved on to better? things) but I still do my own repair work. I have never seen a rear wheel bearing that made noise only when the vehicle was on the ground. A bad bearing will still make some noise (although louder with a...

1997 wipers won't work; replaced motor, relays okay, fuses okay

My guess is the multi-function switch in the steering column (turn signal switch). It controls the wipers, turn signals and hazard lights. Bear in mind that the brake light circuit passes through this switch also, so if you have a short either in the switch itself or the harness that feeds it...

    My balking Ranger

Hello Swimmer and welcome to the forum! Interesting that it seems to fix itself. Since it threw the CEL on, I would take it to your neighborhood big box part place (AutoZone / Advanced Auto / O'Reilly) and they will pull the codes for free. Barring that, I would start by replacing the fuel...

    Wheel bearing noise.

Well, with it being 2WD, that rules out half shaft or front diff. One thing I would do is jack up that left front wheel off the ground and spin it. Could possibly be something with the brake on that wheel or in the ABS.

    2000 4.0 OHV knocking

Awesome! That doesn't sound too painful!

    2000 4.0 OHV knocking

When you remove the spark plug wire on that cylinder, that kills the detonation in that cylinder and takes pressure off the piston and related parts. What you described sounds like a cracked piston skirt.

    Wheel bearing noise.

Hello and welcome to the forum! You didn't state if 2WD or 4WD / automatic or manual trans. I would check for noise in the trans and in the case of it being 4WD, the front differential and half shafts.

    Wheel spacers

The more dish or offset you have, the more strain on the bearing. Deep dished wheels can cause premature bearing failure, although when I was young and building hot rods, I never had a bearing fail me because of deep dished wheels. Just lucky? Maybe. Just curious; why do you want to run...

Hard shift from 1st to 2nd od light flashing

Hello Rebel and welcome to the forum! I did a quick Google search and it appears there are various things that can cause that behavior. Could be as simple as changing the fluid and filter all the way to a full rebuild. Best bet would be to take it to a transmission shop (yeah, I know how...
