What does it mean when you dump your exhaust? Gut your Catalytic Converters? My local exhaust shop refused to put my exhaust on because my cats are gutted, and also said it would be very loud if I went ahead and installed it without a glass pack. I always thought a glass pack made it louder. If it gutting your cats means dumping it then thats my setup, so someone help me out

so if my catalytic converters are gutted howmuch louder is that going to make my truck wit my new exhaust? To loud and obnoxious? Or just a little louder? I have 2.5" piping and a 4" outlet tips.

A little louder but I dont recommend doing it. You may want to save up for headers

Well the thingis whe I bought the truck the Cats were gutted. Ill put the exhaust on like that unless you think adding a glass pack will quiet it down. And why save up for headers? The F-150's come stock with performance headers if im not mistaken. I forget were I read it, but they pretty much said its a waste of money.

Ok, if they are performance headers, why do you ask about gutting the cats? You just just throw on a better sounding muffler. I wouldnt gut the cats, I would get new ones myself IF the truck already has performance headers

honestly if your cats are gutted i would see about getting some new ones that could cause some problems running it for a long time with gutted cats. ie a decrease in fuel mileage....

A decrease in gas mileage is way overated. a 20g tank last me 2 weeks atleast I get 16mpg with gutted cats. With working proper cats not only do you lose power, but some gas mileage it all works around itself with a good meaning behind them both. Just one of those things that cat aways be explained wether its good or bad.

Im not going to dump 600 doll hairs on one cat just so it says flowmaster or magnaflow on the pipe lol. Im just going to run my gutted cats, with my Flow master 40 and call i a day. Someone mentioned with gutted cats that your gas doesnt get mixed or some crap, but my gas mileage is incredible so unless something stops working then it will be fixed.

buggman Do not touch the trim!

In some areas, running gutted cats or no cats is illegal too.

If you want a nice throaty sound that still has some performance enhancements, you could go with a cat back system like magnaflow, flowmaster, etc.

The shop probably didn't want to take responsibility if you were to fail emissions tests & have the work traced back to them. Basically covering their butts. Lots of shops will only do things "by the book" & not even custom bend the tubing to fit around obstacles better. Some are just too lazy or dumb to figure those things out too.
