The problem arises when you need to feed the lights with power when the truck is not in reverse, where does it come from ?
That is why you need to set up the lights for "manual on" as a separate aux light circuit, then just use a sw to activate them, the same sw will manually turn on the lights and cut off the reverse sw and vise-versa.

It is not hard to do, it is just the way I explain things, not very well, but if you have any questions, post here or e-mail me at “nnf000@gmail.com”.

Yes a DTDP Sw (On/On with two sets of three poles) is common and should be available at almost any automotive store, if not DEL Electronics on the web has them.

IMHO… tear out the wiring you did for the reverse lights so far (that isn’t working) and start from scratch, take it one step at a time, sometimes easier.

    luck

ok, so instead of having it work ON and REVERSE, can i just do this with what ive got? get a switch like this?

What you have above is for fog lights to work with the headlights but sort of.

The DPDT sw will make it so you don't have both switches on at the same time, reverse and the On Sw.

You can use everything except the headlight and sw part and add your DPDT Sw in there with a supply voltage to activate the relay, plus add in the wiring from the reverse sw.

This is generic schematic for aux lights: http://www.rangerforum.net/f36/how-aux-light-hookup-indicator-light-4454/.
    Again, the sw...

well yea it says for headlights but it would be the same thing if the diaram showed the headlights as reverse lights. i think i have the wrong switch or something. of course all it says is (ON,OFF,ON) on the packaging and then on the back it shows the 3 prongs and says Power, load, ground. idk i just want it to work with the reverse scratch the other ways. just so i can have them work without changing alot

In that schematic the headlights have to be on for the extra sw/lights to work, you want then to work with out the truck in reverse and key on.

The sw you have is ok for a std light circuit not what you are doing.

    Good luck with thw wiring.

Let me know how you end up doing this.

whew i got them working! i got a SPST switch and it works now. i have the power from the relay and the reverse wire going to it. i think what messed me up is that you dont need a wire to the fuse box since it isnt an illuminated switch. so im glad it just works now haha
