Hey guys. As all of you should know, they discontinued production of the Ford Ranger in 2011. This is of course a huge deal! But this seems kinda fishy to me? Why in the world would Ford completely give up an entire section of the truck market? Do you guys think theyre bein sneaky and gonna come out with a completely redesigned Ranger? Possibly something bigger inside and out, maybe even offer a V8, leather, and even a 4 door with a different name? Yea... neither do I lol but it makes me wonder what those guys at Ford are thinkin. Theyre either complete idiots or sneaky bastards lol. Whats your opinion?

because the made the eco boost f150 so they made a truck with better mileage so the got rid of the ranger so they could focus sales on the f150s

But you pay out the azz for an Ecoboost F-150. That engine alone is a few thousand dollar option!

and sales were dropping on the ranger, and they planned on getting rid of it in 2004 and 2008

I heard that they were going to introduce a truck that's bigger than the Ranger but smaller than the F150. Don't know if that is true but could be interesting.

    ^^ Thats what Im hopin...

Heres where im lost: a FULLY LOADED Ranger (4.0, 4x4, Sport, 4.10 LS, etc etc) costs $29,331.

A basic XL F-150, 2 door, long bed, Eco-Boost, 4x4, and nothing else is $30,335

I read something about a f100 med size, but you never know. Look at the camaro, it got stale & they killed it for a few years then came out with a better one... Maybe ford will follow suit.
If ford had kept the price down & had better fuel economy the ranger may still be around. Kinda bad when you could get an f150 wit a v8 & better fuel economy than a v6 ranger.
I guess there was more profit margin in the f150.

    Ditto on above !

Ford been talk’n trash about whats to come… really I think they did away with the Ranger because they want to increase F150 Sales.
I heard but can’t verify that the Ranger Sales were not dropping, they were holding there own and out selling a lot of the models.
Fleet sales were up and Ford the F150 in fleets not the Ranger.
Another thing, why does Ford sell the Ranger, Crew Cab, 5 sp and some Diesels in other countries and not here ?

    FORD WISE UP !

I for one like a smaller track, don’t need an F150 and will not buy one, Toyota here I come.
Let’s hope Toyota has the sense to keep the smaller truck or at least Ford smartens up and delivers on this new phantom F100.

I think in the future if I wanna get something different, itll either be an older Ranger or older F-150. Cant afford a new F-150 and they dont make Rangers. Stupid Ford lol

ive heard of the f100 idea, seems kinda dumb if its not that much smaller than a f150 IMO. just think of how much better the Ranger could be if they put say an ecoboost or other tech/develop in a Ranger the size of ours. over 25 mpg in 4x4 probably wouldnt be out of reach i think.....
im sure the ecoboost would fit lol my grandpas f150 has one and its cool to see an engine compartment not totally stuffed you cant see anything but plastic.

the way I see it, the sales of compact and midsize trucks have been falling the past years. If you compare a 4L Ranger, Tacoma or Frontier vs the New Fullsize Ford, Dodge and Gms there is no comparaison. The fuel Economy is greater, the Room is great, better tow and payload capacity, better performance and cheaper to buy as well. The Ranger was worth buying with all its rebates, but I cant justify paying $30,000 for a Ranger, $34,000 for a Frontier or $40,000 for a Tacoma when the Hemi Ram Quad Cab that I would want is $33,000 (No fiddy for this guy).

Yes I prefer the size of the ranger, but there are many more benefits to owning a modern fullsize truck. Bringing back the ranger in a more modern format doesnt make sense to me unless they offer a crewcab 6ft bed diesel version in N-A and for less then $30,000 which will probably never happen.

So i tell myself that I bought the last year of the true Ranger. We cant forget what the ranger was representing all these years. A basic, barebones workhorse of a truck, not a refined, polished or sophisticated people mover with a small bed on the back that the Euro Ranger represents.

I still dont see why after 6 months of the death of the Ranger that we are still talking about it. The sales werent there, the updates werent there and the talks of killing ranger have been going on for years. I dont hear or see anyone crying about the Crown Victoria being killed off, Isnt it basically the same thing as the Ranger, an unrefined, not updated, not fuel efficient but reliable basic automobile.

to add what rango said my aunt was looking into one of the gm mid size trucks but after looking into it, the full size gm she go instead was one mpg less, had more space, more towing, and was only $2000 more expensive so now in this day and age its more reasonable to buy a fullsize truck instead of small ones, even if you dont need need that much space you can still get a 6ft bed and single or ext cab and it will still be small, and when i get a new truck ill be stepping up to a full size, because im getting 15.4mpg as is with my ranger so a full size truck will be about the same mileage, more space, more power, more use

Dodge right now has brand new Quad Cab 4.7L 4x4 SXT Rams for sale for $19,995. Heck I might have bought one if I didnt have the ranger. Dont get me wrong but I love my manual and I rather have the hemi, but thats good value for money right there, especially since I paid $18,845 for my ranger.

--- When you refer to the GM midsize, I imagine you mean the Colorado/Canyon? I cant imagine any real reason to buy those unreliable crapola boxes. I priced one just before I bought the ranger, and a 2WD 2.9L 4 cyl Manual was $29,000  unbelievable and I hear the 5 cyl is **** and the 5.3L with the 4 spd Tranny has terrible fuel economy. Plus the build quality just isnt there :p

false. sales were very high. higher than the models that ford created as gas conscious alternatives (fiesta, focus) to the ranger 4cyl.

why did ford kill the ranger? money. when was the last time the truck really changed? ages ago. they'd need to update the entire truck to make it compete with toyota's tacoma, GM's canyon/colorado, and nissan's frontier. all of those trucks have more updated suspension, better drivetrain, and more room in the cab. the f150 has been a best seller for how long?? exactly. why not dump money into a truck that's already the most popular/arguably best in class instead of building a new ranger for the states in an overpopulated market.

Sales clearly dropped from over 200,000 Rangers in 2000 to barely 60,000 in 2010

    -----

Ranger, first sold in the U.S. in February 1982, peaked at 348,000 U.S. sales in 1999, Ford says. In 2008, last "normal" sales year for the U.S. auto market, Ranger's tally was just 66,000, according to Autodata. Many of those were fleet buyers and Ford thinks it can switch a lot of them to the Transit Connect small commercial van.

Its NOT cheaper to get a full size truck over a Ranger. I done explained that. a FULLY LOADED Ranger is CHEAPER than a BONE STOCK F-150 4 wheel drive w/ the Ecoboost for that "23" mpg. You can not convince me that it would be cheaper to go full size.

even the 4.6l and 3.7l still get great mileage, and cheaper then the ecoboost try checking the prices on for the 4.6 v8 and the 3.7 v6
