Beginning to hate my truck again...

Well, today was a living nightmare for me. Everything that could go wrong, sure as hell did. As some of you may know, I got a sport trac gauge cluster yesterday at the junk yard and matching silver hvac unit. Well, let me start off by saying, if you don't know what the hell you're doing, CONSULT SOMEONE WHO DOES! It took me an hour just to figure out what was holding my dashboard together, then to find the right sockets since my set was stolen from my toolbox about two weeks ago. So after all that. I finally figured out what I could do to save my mileage, and then reassembling it. So after countless attempts to put the cluster back in, I snapped the shifter indicator cable and had to rewire a new one through the rat's nest of a steering column. Then I tried to start up the truck and see it, but the damn needles were way off. So I pulled it again, realigned em where I thought they should have went, got back out to the truck and the same thing happened. So I went through this about three times before I could strike a spark of luck. Then I finally had everything back together when I saw that there were two bulbs burnt out. So out it came a fourth time to fix them. THEN! It was FINALLY IN. Now onto the hvac. Ford must've had the biggest morons working in their development department because the plugs on the hvac didn't match mine at all. So I had to halfass the thing and rig it back into my old panel to make it work. So I got everything back in place, only to go and plug the radio back in and now THAT wouldn't go in. Damn thing was bent in the adapter plug so I had to straighten that back out. Then, I put everything FINALLY back together and finally got it all to work properly... Until I went to bolt the bottom piece back in. Then my hood latch opener popped out, and I couldn't get that back in. Finally figured that out. So four hours later I finally had my new cluster on! But as I was driving back up here, I'm almost positive that either the rpm needle or the speedo needle is off. Pics to come shortly (hopefully)...

On another note, my weekend consisted of going to the junk yard, fender flare ripping off and getting run over by a truck, getting to the yard, having a cold and NOT helping was the wind blowing a 25* temperature over me and 3" of snow at a moment's notice, then losing the wing on my tonneau! That blew off today too. So yeah, my weekend SUCKED.

EDIT: PICS!!!!!!

It's a learning experience, I did the same thing. It wont come all at one time man. You took the cluster out 4 times...you now have 4 times the experience and soon can do it blindfolded. As far as the wing on the tonneau cover, I am glad its gone to be honest!

lol My dad and I both agree with you on that. It looks a lot better now without it. I just need to repaint the cover entirely because of the damage on it. And I have fabbed my own little CB antenna mounts for it too lol

1: If you don't know what you're doing or are about to do something you haven't done before, RESEARCH RESEARCH!

2: Only needle that should've been touched is the speedo if you swapped the odo/trip rollers from your old to the new cluster. It's a bear to get the needle dead on if you didn't take the time to read the how-to on R-F authored by myself. At minimum, install cluster without the clear plastic and without the speedo needle.....drive at 60 (via GPS) and set the needle.

3. You've probably got a cable blend door like me..... Pretty much anything newer than our '01's have a electric blend door. The hvac panels aren't interchangeable swap-for-swap, but there's ways to make the silver face (just the faceplate) work on a cable blend door HVAC rear panel.

4. It's not your trucks fault it can be a pain in the neck when modding. Mines the same way....she fights me to the end and all I do is give her new parts left and right and she always fights back. Just like a real woman. lol.

I actually did look at yours before I did it on frf. But I should have done more before I jumped into something that involved me ripping half my dash apart. And I probably should have waited until I wasn't out of my mind with the cold meds too.

Well whatever meds your on, cold meds or otherwise, keep taking them. They're working. You're not a tight arsed doosh canoe today. lol.

Hahaha. Nahhh, only to certain people lol And Clinton, I didn't wanna bother you again for help. Lately I've felt like a bother for always coming to you, and then pissing you off on here. Welp, might as well make this a damn confession thread. Lmao

Yeah, you piss me off, but I can still help. Mainer, the only way you can get me up there is alot of money and nekked hot womenz!

lol I'm gonna get more in the daylight. I was sick of being in that truck tonight haha. I'm looking for some LED's too for it, but don't have the money yet... lol It sucks being broke. Cracka gotta get a job soon haha

Pete, you shoulda just wound the mileage back(or forward if it had less) w a knife rather then takin needles off, and all sorts of other nonsense..
Or called me I woulda walked you through it over the phone. I can do it asleep probably..
