  1. Alright, so I finally got my CB in. Only problem is, I ain't hearing much talk on it. I know I calibrated it correctly, so Idk if it's just because I'm in the city, my antennas aren't mounted high enough or too high, or what. Anybody with some experience in the workings of a CB wanna help me out with this one? I heard that it could be from the antennas being too close together, and that I should disconnect one from the wire. Only thing is, the wire splits from right behind the radio, so I'd have 18' of extra wire. And wouldn't just leaving that wire open still pick up some kind of a signal?

It depends on where I'm at... Sometimes I'll turn it all the way up, and still hear static.

Well, the antenna wire has to cross itself or else it wouldn't fit w/o having to rip up the entire carpet to hide it.

with both antennas close your getting cross signals from each, undo one or add a wire to one of the antennas for a ground so it will ground stronger

I'll try the grounding thing. Idk if it's the greatest because it ain't attached directly to the truck, it's on the toolbox.

okay then unscrew the antenna from the base, stick a wire in it screw it back in and attach the other end of the wire to a good grounding spot

first issue is a cobra 29...lol second is a 29 with duals and no radio mods.

first go get a single coax on run it DONT buy a 18ft if you only need 6 ft. buy it as close to the length you need. second run the new coax DO NOT ROLL IT IN A COIL to get rid of and store the extra you may have. dont just un hook one ant and leave it at that you WILL mess your radio up.

second buy better ants k 40s are good wilsons are great personal for a truck a truckers k40 69.99 and a heavy mag mount 12.99 or 19.99 but if you really want dual looks and want to talk alot get good ant. otherwise

peak and tune your ants or take it to a cb shop have them do it( if you take it to a shop and got some extra green have them work your radio over some too)

as for the static if your scelch is wide open that is normal run channel 19 and ask for a radio check if they dont respond try break one nine for some help....

radio tips a 29 can be a big radio with some work done, out of the box good is a galaxy 979,959, 33,44,55,99,98 connex 3300,4400, cobra 148 also old general lees or grants

How did you do on this, ever get the CB to work well enough to talk on it ?

Any pictures of the Rat Shack Antenna Mounting ?

Did you buy Rat Shack Coat too ?

Big problem with Radio Shack is the Clerks do not know much about what they sell, especially CBs.

Let the site know where you stand on this project.

    thanks
