A common one with 01+ 4.0 SOHC engines is the 90 degree intake tube on tope of the engine causing the check engine light to show intake leak. Some mechanics say the whole intake gaskets needs replacing when in fact its just that little rubber tube that cracks

The MAIN problem with these trucks are the rear shackles and hangers. Almost every ranger I look at more than 5 years old needs at least one. Another problem is for the 1-3rd gens are the radius arm bushings. No one notices they're bad and end up ruining the crossmember which in turn will need replaced.

I heard these Rangers are notorious for the starter grinding the flywheel to pieces... EEK! Is this true?

One guy I went to college with said he worked at a big mechanics shop and the car they worked on 2nd most, after the Taurus, was the Ranger cuz they ate flywheels. Iv never heard of this happening either. He might just be full of crap too lol.

^^^And agree more on that last one lol. I tried this out vvv and it took every ounce of horsepower it had to get up to 60 mph lol. It did fine in first gear, but soon as it upshifted it peetered out
