Won't Start

I removed each battery cable so I could clean the terminals.

First, I disconnected (-), cleaned it up and put it back on.

Next, I disconnected red (+), cleaned it up and put it back on. There was quite a bit of corrosion product on the terminal, so I cleaned the end of cable with hot water and baking soda. While doing this I protected the top of the battery with a towel and no baking soda/water came in contact with the battery.

I rinsed the (+) cable with water and dried it thoroughly. Again, no water came in contact with the battery.

The truck won't start. It won't crank, it just clicks.

I checked the battery voltage and it was at 12.4.

Any ideas?

It was fine before and mostly started easily with a single turn of the key.
 
What are the specs of your truck? Check the terminals, make sure they are tight on the posts and nothing is breaking the connection, make sure they are completely dry as well. Use a hair dryer if need be
 
clicking after all that, I would guess the starter is getting power, just not enough. Make sure the clamps are tight enough so you can not turn them sideways.
 
Tried that, everything bone dry and tight.
Also checked fuses, nothing blown.

The interior dome light is bright, and the dash lights for batt, oil, air bag, etc. come on when I turn rthe key.

Just no cranking. Only clicking...
 
the battery is two years old, has always been strong.

It's showing 12.4 volts with everything off. I put a trickle-charger on it to make sure it was completely charged, but the amps went right to zero on the charger, so I'm sure the battery is charged. I don't have anything to jump it with anyway.
 
Its something with the starter. Clicking is starter or bad connection some where between battery and starter

did you see what the voltage is when you have the key on.... sounds like the battery is toast to me.... i believe a good battery has to have 13-14 volts to crank the motor over and run the pcm.....
 
I got it jump started this morning and drove it to a shop to have the electrical system checked.

It was just the battery.

New battery, problem solved.

Initially I didn't think it was the battery because the problem was so sudden. There was no history of hard starts or any sign of a weak battery.

Anyway, problem solved. Thanks for the tips.

That's how mine went. I was driving it around after it got out of the shop, then went home. Twenty minutes later, when I was gonna leave to go back to campus, it did the same thing yours did. I thought something was jammed in the engine lol
