What purpose do the magnet rings serve on speakers?

Title basically says it all. The speakers I got today had bigger magnets on them than the factory ones. So what do they do? And how is the power and quality affected and bettered when certain speakers are made?
 
the coil in the speakers get charged, which makes them oppositely charged from the magnet. this charge makes the speaker cone move because it's connected to the coil, which makes the sound waves you hear.
