Well I went to install the prototype Shelby diff cover today. Turns out the 1 inner fin comes too close to the 4:10 gears, so I am not going to use it. I figure I would rather see someone use it than have it on a wall collecting dust. This is 1 of 7 prototype covers for the shelby that Ford made, Ford has since destroyed the other 6, so from what I am told, this is the only prototype cover that reamains. It has been painted Toreador red, silver metallic striping. This cover will be up for grabs on here for a week only, then it goes to auction. I am asking 200.00 shipped obo, shipping anywhere to the lower 48 US states, Priority mail with tracking.

I'm not sure what gears it will fit. I'm not familiar with gearing widths other than my own. What makes this different from the rest is the serial number that is on it. I know there are an abundance of these same exact ones however, this particular one comes with a FORD serial number, I guess the assembly plant used it. Based on that, the contact I have had fom the original owner and the contact information he had or has from the Ford worker who sold this, it has a good story, a story that jives and CAN be corroborated by the previous owner and the Ford employee stating it is in fact a Shelby prototype cover. To me, the value is it on the truck and now that idea is shot, it could be worth something, it could be worth nothing, I don't know.

The deeper/lower the gear (aka higher the ratio number), the thicker the ring gear. For example, a 4.10 ring gear is thicker than a 3.73. If the cover is hitting the teeth side of the gear(passenger side face), it could be possible to clear a 3.73 or higher (if Clinton has 4.10). Of course this all depends where on the cover she's hitting and what it is hitting on the ring.


Anybody know the gearing of a Shelby? I recall a standard 3.55 and optional 3.73? Just going off memory here.

huh, not sure why most post was deleted. just shining some light that its not a prototype cover. I'm sorry if you were snowballed and told a bogus story Clinton.

I am keeping the cover, I found out my brothers business partner has a milling type machine that will mill the inner fins down.
