Locked steering wheel

1998 Ranger 2 wd 4 cyl. Cannot get steering wheel to un lock. The key will not turn to switch position
Any way that this can be unlocked, steering wheel will move slightly but allow switch to turn to unlock.???
Can I "break" the lock somehow, ?? Need to get this POS out of garage and sent to scrap heap..
Any idea's welcome.
 
The POS went to scrap yard Wed. Just got sick of trying to get it inspected, VSS problem, changed at least 4 times, most likely broken wire.
Out of my garage and yard. Second ranger that was so troublesome, other was 89 model, ironic first 89 then 98. Had very good service on 2000
put 211,000miles on it when lost valve, started to change motor found serious crack on frame due to poor cleaning history of original owner, not washing
salt off in winter. Only had 10,000 miles when I got it, 3 yrs old.
