First pic of my 88 ranger

yep. i would probly never part with this truck unless circumstaces made me. I was told also by a friend that is a die-hard dodge owner that if i like diesel and want power in a ranger that i should put a 4bt cummins and a 6spd manual in it.

4BTs are noises, consider a VW 2.0L Turbo Diesel.

There is a VW Diesel conversion going on one of the Ranger sites.

Whats the power like? cause i buy a diesel based on noise and power. I wouldn't mind owning a cummins diesel. It just depends what truck its connected to.

Speaking form driving the wife's Passet.
I can tear the tires off from a dead stop.
Passing will put back in the seat.
We have achieved over 50 mpg so far and VW has reports of a Passet getting 62 mpg, but I am not sure.
If I had the time or wanted a diesel I would consider one, especially since it has been done.

Good idea would be to search the web for Ranger/VW diesel conversions and read up on it.

Oh ya, no noise, maybe a little at idle but driving no noise.

Sounds like an option I might consider. I did look into the 5.0L v8. I forgot it was an explorer motor. its mostly drop it in, plug it in, and go for a spin. very minor modifications. I like the idea of both. What would be a cool swap would be to drop a 3.2L powerstroke diesel in it from ford. they just started makin em last year.

To me the5.0 would probably win out because of the sound of the engine, the whine, and you can have any amount of power your pocket can handle. It is by far the simplest install of any motor out there, even if the motor has its own stand alone harness/computer. A new harness or one from an earlier Stang would give you a three wire hookup, again simple.

The new power stroke, something to consider but I would think almost everything would have to fabricated, harnessing could be interesting but since you have an '88, might not be too bad.
Something to look into, cost vs result vs time.

Luck with it.
You've got me thinking 5.0 AGAIN !

There good motors as far as i know. Its all money based. I found a 5.0L at a jy last night for 250$ out of a 97 ford explorer. they're easier to get than a 4bt. I have found multiple vw 2.0L diesels for cheap too. just gonna have to see what i feel like.

Yeah. I could bick up a parts rig for probly 400$ off cl. oh, and i have a question. I had my truck out for a drive and i decided to gun the motor to get up to speed and i went to hit third gear and i couldn't cause my motor hit 4000 rpms. i took my foot off the gas and it still stayed for 2 more seconds. is it my TPS?
