Backyard Mechanics

So I gotta tell you a scary and ****ed up story that happened yesterday.

I got home from work and my cousin stopped by and asked me to come up to his house and look at his brakes. His buddy had just done pads and rotors the night before.

I go up there and jack it up, and you can pull the wheel in/out almost 2 INCHES

on both sides.

I get the wheels off the front end and see there's metal shavings everywhere. The outer brake pad and the inner bearing was missing on both sides and the spindle nuts were just hand tightened. And the hubs were locked. There wasnt even grease on the inner RACE where the bearing was supposed to be. The seal was ruined on both sides needless to say.

We needed to go get all new bearings, races, seals, and pads again just bc some dumb **** wasnt man enough to say he couldnt do it right.

It kinda scared the **** outa me that there's pple out there that can do something like this.

Wow

That is scary and messed up, I'm glad nobody got hurt. Some people should not be allowed anywhere near tools.

That blows man... Go kick his ass for the money. Or better yet, let's send Lint to go arrest him lol That'd get him to pay up lol Where does he live? Haha

I understand the situation, and obviously this guy shouldn't be workin on anybodys car.

But, why the header of "Backyard Mechanics"? I consider myself one of those, as I've never been to school for any kinda mechanics, I'm not certified, and I've learned all that I do know from workin with mechanics, and/or watchin as somebody else did the job, to include buildin engines.

I'm a "hands on" person, readin books & then tryin to do what was described just hasn't worked for me.

I'm very sceptical of workin on others vehicles, but I do all my own work that I'm comfortable doin, and also work on my Son's vehicles.
I get people all the time askin me to do this or that to their cars, and I just refuse.

Not tryin to stur anythin up, just given my O2 on the header.

GLAD it was caught before your buddy and/or somebody else gettin hurt.

A backyard mechanic doesnt know their ass from a hole in the ground. Not particularly skilled but is broke and tries to fix something himself because he cant afford someone else to do it for him, usually ending up breaking it even worse.

There's a difference between weekend mechanics and backyard mechanics... Backyards are the halfassers that don't know what they're doing. Weekend mechanics know somewhat of what they're doing, but go through people that do for guidance.
