96 Ranger, 4.0L. Leaking antifreeze somewhere on the side of the block right above the axle, coming from behind the air conditioner compressor and power steering pump. Is there a freeze plug in that area, or what could be leaking in that general area? Thanks!

If it's not a freeze plug, it could be the head gasket (hopefully not). I had it happen on my 97'F-150 4.6. It ran great and everything, just leaked badly. My fan clutch went out, which made it over heat a few times on the way home from work, in turn warping my passenger side head just enough to create a leak.

I hope that's not the case in your situation. If you have a Chiltons manual or something, it will give you the locations of all the freeze plugs, and the step by step on how to replace them. Wish you the best.

Freeze plug....I've replaced 5 of them in the last 6 months in my dads gfs 97. Take the bracket off and there's a freeze plug on the front of the head, pound it out, take it to the auto parts store and get a new one. They're right around 3 bucks. Get a brass one, they tend to last longer.
