2010 Ranger AC always runs

My 2010 Ranger air conditioner compressor runs in almost every ventilation switch position. Doesn't have to be the "AC" or ""Max AC" position. Dealer says this is normal.

I say BS. If it's normal why have an "AC" position on the switch?

Any ideas?
 
Look in your owners manual at the " climate controls section" ,my 02 only has 2 positions that the ac doesn`t run , the 1 where the arrow is pointed at the little mans feet and the 1 where arrow is pointed at the little mans head. Reed the manual , you will either become smarter :thumbup1: or feel real dumb :eek: like some of us. Good luck..
 
Well after an 80$ service bill I am a little more broke, smarter, and dumb.

I did feebly complain about the poor ergonomics of the ventilation control panel with only 2 positions saying "AC" though. It's wasting fuel to run the compressor when not needed and the fuel economy is bad enough already.

In the 2010 model, the compresser runs in the non-AC positions if the temp is greater than 6C. With the high temps here (Saint John, New Brunswick) rarely warm enough to require AC (my house doesn't have or need AC) this is a waste of fuel IMHO.
 
I drive 45 miles round trip to work with the heater set in different positions and haven`t noticed any difference always 17 to 18.6 mpg .What kills my mileage is the in town running that put me to 16.5 .I just did a 125 mile Hwy trip with control set where the compressor did run and got 20.8 mpg ,I think thats great comparing it to my 90 Toyota 3.0 ,both trucks weigh about the same.I`m pleased with my 02 4.0 for ride and power.
 
Then just keep the switch in the position so its off....is it really that difficult to wrap your head around? :thumbsup:
 
the a/c doesn't just cool, but removes moisture from the air. it makes the defrost more effective. another reason it runs in most positions is to keep the seals and o-rings lubed up. those parts, if dried out and damaged, are probably more costly than the minimum extra gas consumption.
