Hello all, searched threads for answers...no help.
I am going to change my electric t/c motor on my b/w 1354, dorman says they ship in "neutral" position, my factory ford service manual states to place t/c in 4H before removing motor from case. Dorman also states DO NOT change position of motor to match up where case triangle shift rod is at by hooking up electrical conn. and turning dash knob when it is OFF of case, (I don't know why that would be), my question is can I use vise grips to move case motor shaft to line up what is the neutral position on new motor? Also should I put my transmission in neutral so if I have to move motor shaft, it is free wheeling with no weight on axles/ wheels? Thanks ahead.

FYI if installing a dorman 600-931 t/c shift motor. Install was a breeze after removing the 4 bolts that hold vibration dampener right below the shift motor to give you another inch that is needed to get the rotation of the triangular notch in the motor to FINALLY align with the t/c shaft,oh BTW the shift motor did NOT come in the neutral position, it was in 2hi, so word to the wise if you are replacing the shift motor, make sure you have the knob on yor dash in that 2hi setting BEFORE removing that shift motor, works great, no clunking anymore and goes in and out of 2hi, 4hi, 4lo everytime now with ease on my 2008 ranger xlt 4.0l a/t.
