donor vehicle

I have an exhausted (close to 400K) 91 2.9 a4ld 4x4 ranger that I want to refresh. I have a 289 from a 67 Mustang that I could throw in it? But there are so many donor vehicles available would I be better off finding another driveline that would "fit" in my old Ranger? I don't really think...
