    converting to disc

So...I don't know much about the 28 spline 8.8 but, can you easily convert it to discs using parts from the 31 spline rear? Haven't gotten much time to look into both axles to see the possibility of the conversion. Rather not swap the whole rear and having to get new perches welded on top. So...

    Axle

The D30 is an "ok" axle if you put truss it, I know a guy running 37's on it with locker and 4.88's and does great (don't get vacuum disco axle if you go that route) and the D30 is almost bolt in (good thread on trs). But if you can go D44 go that route for sure, they can be found in the early...

Ok, so then flex is not an issue for you then leafs would be fine, there is coil trucks on 37's but leafs would probably work better for what you're wanting to do. And good thing going with 60's if you're going to be hard on it with mudding.

    Axle swap complete!!

There are several rangers/explorers that have gone leafs with SAS but since you have TTB you already have coil buckets on the frame and in place that you can reuse with a SAS if wanted, so that you can continue to use coils and get better flex, and have easier time with steering setup.
