    96 Ranger Brake Fluid Leak

Hello Bill and welcome to the forum! Brakes and engine problems on a 1996. You didn't state how many miles, but if the engine has any SERIOUS issues, you may be better served by getting a different vehicle. I know... we love our Rangers, but at some point, you may have to move on. Brake...

4x4 with or without running boards

Interesting. I see you started this thread on Sunday. I have been on this forum every day, but this one didn't show up. That may be why you had no replies. Anyway, on to the topic... I personally, do not like running boards; never have. I don't do the off-roading thing, so I can't say for...

    What Car Should I Buy?

A truck. Oh wait, you have that F350... okay, a car then! LOL Honestly, I detest most of today's automobiles. They all look alike and seem to lack charisma. Are you planning on brand new or gently used?

    Any Tips To Clean Car

Dawn dish detergent, 409 or Fantastic spray cleaner, lemon Pledge (for vinyl and tires), old toothbrushes to clean the nooks and crannies.

    4wdrive rims vs 2wd rims?

Welcome to the forum, Jim! You didn't say what year Ranger you have, but based on the issue you are having, I want to say you have something around 1998-1999... maybe older? My 2WD EDGE wheels fit my son's 1999 4WD with no problems, so I don't know what is causing the problem with the 2WD...

How Many Miles Do You Have?

@DeanMk: That is also true of the air horn. The Rangers already have a cold air intake, which causes me to laugh when someone on one of the forums brags that he just installed a K&N cold air intake ($300 or so). The K&N unit actually turns your truck into a hot air intake, because of the...

    change to amzoil?

If you have a Rural King in your area, you can get a 5qt. container of 5w-20 or 5w-30 synthetic AND a Motorcraft filter for $11.98. Running this in my 2003 EDGE and my son is using it in his 1999 XLT. I see no difference in the quality of the oil from other "major" brands. EDIT: I should...

How Many Miles Do You Have?

Awesome! Then you will know exactly what I'm talking about when I say "that red 'L' shaped thingy with the hook on one end that is right next to the hot oval box on the right side between the tires" right? LMAO :)

Marc, unfortunately, we all have lives that get in the way of our truck fun! LOL

    Inspecting a paint job

Okay, your close-up pics show me what you are talking about. THAT, is not acceptable... not for a $3000 paint job and certainly not for $8500! I would be dragging that paint shop owner in to court.

    My Big Fat Ranger Roadtrip

Thumbs up to Timbootz for his suggestions... some that I missed. Debbie, a MAF is the Mass Air Flow sensor. It is a good idea to clean it occasionally (every oil change maybe?). Anyway, be sure to buy a can of MAF cleaner. DO NOT use carburetor cleaner. Spray it down, let it soak for...

How Many Miles Do You Have?

True dat! My son pulled the horn out of his 1999 XLT 3.0L. He did it specifically to get the throatier (is that even a word?) sound.

    Rear brake back plate

Your only option is probably a salvage yard. The Explorer 1995-2001 should have the same backing plate. I checked Rock Auto and they only list the 9" backing plate. A used backing plate is just as good as a new one and will be considerably less expensive. Good luck! :)

    My Big Fat Ranger Roadtrip

Hello Debbie and welcome to the forum! You've already covered the oil change and I suppose that included checking all the other fluids for proper level and cleanliness. Wouldn't hurt to get the brakes checked (including the lines) and maybe do a good flush and fill with fresh coolant. I...

    change to amzoil?

Hello Jim and welcome to the forum! I am rather "old school" so my answer may not agree with the others here. It has always been my opinion that when an engine has that many miles on it, you don't want to start changing the type of oil you use. My reasoning is that conventional oil has...

How Many Miles Do You Have?

The horn actually does two things. It quiets down the rush of air entering the air box AND it provides a SMOOTH airflow path for that air. When you remove the horn/snorkel (what a lot of forums call the "air box mod"), you are disrupting the air flow... it no longer has a smooth, curved...
