New guy with a dead '03 Ranger

Those are a noninterference motor, therefore you can just swap the head and not worry about piston issues if the timing is what went wrong. seems like a whole motor swap is a lot of work for just a head provided compression is ok on the current motor

    To weld or to replace?

Having patched a few frames in my life the first issue is its never as "easy" as it looks. There is always way more rust hidden in the frame than you first see. Also having done a rear frame on a ranger. Its stupid easy, just take off the bed, undo the wiring/fuel lines, drop the drive shaft...

    Apple Hill 4x4

They must have gotten a lot better since I went there last, The guy behind the counter treated me like an idiot and basically told me to get a different truck rather than do anything to mine (wanted a 6 inch lift for a 96 f250). Ive been warning people not to go there ever since

new block is already built up. 306 with all forged internals. Ported heads and port matched intake. Aught to run alright. May tune it for 24lb injectors just to see. Also slapped some 1.7 rocker arms on it

Well I yanked my motor out today, Thought I had a blown head gasket but it turns out my issue is else where. But I am not to certain this block is going back in the truck. There is a broken bell housing bolt on the lower left side

in all honesty you would be farther ahead just doing some upgrades to that SOHC 4.0 you have. The 5.0 in explorers wasnt really a big power maker. Yes its a much better platform but over all its still a dog in factory trim

lol still seems like a lot of work, for mine I had to have a 97 or older system. My ranger doesnt have PATS. So I had to adapt the fuel system for that but other than that its a bolt in deal

I have a quiet exhaust, stock exit. 2.5 diameter with no tip lol 5.0 is fun but its a pain in the rear really. Specially on your platform you have a lot of electronics to deal with. Mine was straight forward.

lol pavement, yeah its kind of fun. If you go by what the scales say for my ranger and the general accepted weight of a fox body I am only 300lbs heavier. I enjoy it. Plus no one expects it so I can lay low. Plus there are 4 other trucks like mine in town (red 4th gen super cabs). So I can get...

See I try to drift mine, but it gets way out of hand. Although last time I was whipping donuts in the middle of a stop light it sure got some attention. a 5.0 with a locked set of 3.73s and 235s is a fun combo

Agreed, its fun to just whip into a parking spot. Plus no one complains about a little stock looking ranger that can do 30mph rolling burnouts lol
