    Injector ticking noise

My '93 had was I thought was loud injector ticking. Turned out whoever replaced the spark plugs before I got it didn't tighten them all the way. If you can do a DIY replacement, they aren't that hard to replace. The injectors are just the big issue as far as cost. Mine for my '93 4.0l were...

    Upgraded bed cover

Any pics yet? Looking forward to finding out what a "Power Dome" is.

    Transmission Rebuild Advice wanted

Update. I'm proceeding with the rebuild, waiting for a new oil trough, rear nuts, tranny assembly lube, and slave cylinder to arrive. After some fine sandpaper, that spot in the front that holds the input bearing looks like it could hold a bearing fine. I'm just trying to figure out if that...

    Blow head gasket?

From what I've heard, if the exhaust smokes white once warmed up, it's blown. Another way is to top off the radiator, start is up and look for a consistent bubbling through the hold where the cap goes. I guess the proper way would be to get a test kit.

Also forgot to add, pocket bearing is wore badly, but main output shaft is fine. Input is junk, all burned up and syncro-thingy for 4th (i'll find the real name adventually) is rounded off.

Ok, the thing is a bare case now, and I bet it's junk. But.... it'd still be worth getting a new tranny vs buying a new truck for 850 as I bought it for only 150. Anyway, here's some more pics. As many of you could see, whomever rebuilt this didn't use new gaskets, just way too much black rtv...

    Transmission Rebuild Advice wanted

I was looking for salvage yards 'bout 2 years ago for a bed for my '88 gmc s15, nearest is "LKQ pick-your-part" and that's 40 miles away. I would actually rather put something like a borg-warner in it as my s15 definitely made that tranny look good. But I couldn't find anything that says any of...

    Transmission Rebuild Advice wanted

Yet another update, Finally got a pic of the oil trough. Also have a pic of a gear syncro-thingy. (Not actually a gear, it's 4th's syncro-thingy) But it's rounded off, not sharp like every other gear.

I did look into that, refurbed one on ebay is 850 big ones and free shipping. That's alot for someone making just over minimum wage. That's why I opted to rebuild, didn't look too bad when I pulled the cover, just the fact that it's been rebuilt and is already whining scares me. I'll have post a...

    Transmission Rebuild Advice wanted

It's a Manual tranny actually. You can grab the input shaft and move it in, out, up, down, left, and right. I took the shift cover off and the input bearing is trashed, the trough that I assume guides oil to it is filled with metal shavings, but the gears and syncro-hubs look good. I'm just...

    Draft through vents while driving

Thanks, I'll try to get it checked out this weekend when it's warmer. Should I be looking right where the heater core is, or is it a little further down?

Update: I pulled the extension housing housing and it's not looking good. Looks like someone was in before me. If it's whining again this soon, what kind of damage is there? Was it a bad rebuild? Is the output shaft damaged and they didn't replace it? We'll find out in the future. I'm no tranny...

    4x4 switch not working

And, did you do the diagnostics on the shift module? The light should flash with the connectors unplugged and the white button pressed.

    4x4 switch not working

In my '93 splash, you have to have the clutch depressed, the tranny in neutral, and completely stopped for it to go into 4wd low. Since you have a '98, your spedometer is probably on the same speed sensor as the shift module, but if it isn't, check your speed sensor. I'm not sure what conditions...

    4x4 switch not working

You many want to put your 4x4 module into diagnostics mode. Here's a link that I used when mine was giving me trouble: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4wd_control_module.html Somewhere along step 2 will tell you how to put it into diagnostics mode, but it checks the module itself...

    Draft through vents while driving

It's cable operated, I thought it would have 2 doors. 1 for determining vent, floor, and defrost, and another one that switches between covering up the heater core, or evaporator. My issue isn't air going the wrong direction, it's air coming out of the vents when driving and everything on the...

    Draft through vents while driving

Already checked for cracks and holes on anything plastic under the hood. No unwanted holes or cracks. I will check the blend doors when the weather lets up, I'll give the blend doors a check. Do they have foam seals around the edges like the gmc s15's blend doors did?

    Draft through vents while driving

I'm lost on how to fix this. I get a draft through whatever vents I've selected while driving on the road and the fan turned off. It becomes noticeable around 40mph and very noticeable at 55 and it doesn't matter if I have the AC on or off. It's very annoying and would like to get it fixed while...

    Transmission Rebuild Advice wanted

I got the tranny out of my '93 4x4 during a few warm days Indiana has provided. I haven't dug into it yet to replace the bearings because winter is doing it's thing right now and the shop is full. So, while I wait on that, is there any advice y'all can give me so I can minimize the chance of...

    Brakes (no pedal)

Did you bleed it using a second person? As in having someome push on the pedal as you open and close bleeders? Keep the truck off and crack open the line closest to the front of the truck on the master cylinder to make sure there isn't a problem in the brake booster. If it's got abs, disable it...
