I pulled the air box out. Took out the snorkel ( I think it's there to quiet the breathing) Then I got 3" hole saw and put 3 extra holes in the box. The air cleaner gets dirty faster but the engine seems to like the extra air. The holes are in the side of the box facing front.

I tried cleaning my MAF for a rough idle and stalling. It did not help. I finally bought a new MAF. All was well after that. I guess some times they just go bad. Cleaning doesn't help. See if a buddy will let you swap MAF,s to trouble shoot.

A fuel pump relay will do this. Mine would shut off. I could wiggle the relay and hear the pump pick. Jump back in and drive away. It might run for weeks before it did it again. The relay is in the fuse box under the hood driver side.

Has anybody installed cone type air filter on 4 L Ranger. Does is whistle or have that deep breathing sound? I have to cut my air box to install one. Mine does mot unbolt like some do. Before I hack the tube up I'd like a sound or sanity check.

I just started having the same issue with mine. Cold start seems fine. Once the truck warms up restarting produces the same result. Almost like I need to hit the gas so it won't stall.

I had a 96 4 cyl. It had well over 200,000 when I sold it. Never burned oil. Change to high mileage oil and run it. Those engines are terrific. PS Sold it 2 years ago and I still see it around town.
