New to the board so please bare with me.

In the last week I've started my truck up a good 10-15 minutes before work in the mornings. I live in the Midwest and the morning temps have been 15-25 degrees lately. But when I get in my Ranger and shift (automatic transmission) into Drive their has been a delay before it starts moving.

I took my Ranger into the shop yesterday and got new transmission fluid, hoping that was the issue. Mechanic drove it and didn't find any problems with it shifting. Unfortunately this morning I had another delay when shifting into Drive to get out of the drive way (I hadn't drove it in 10 hours).

Some back info, once my truck has been moving around I am not incurring any shifting issues. Also if I stop and then an hour or two go back to go someone I am not having any issues with hesitations or delays when I start it and put it into Drive.

I've got 160k on the truck and never had this issue. Not sure if the tranny is going out or if just needs new solenoids? Should I have my shop do a diagnostic check? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

When it’s cold out, I sometimes have to shift into reverse first before Drive will engage. Not sure why Reverse works & Drive won’t, but it works for me. Good luck
